Theatre Conspiracy at the Alliance for the Arts recently announced its
2017-18 season, which includes "beloved classics, comedic favorites and
award-winning new plays from fresh voices."
“We have put together another very diverse season for our audiences," founder and producing artistic director Bill Taylor said. "There is something for everyone! From the classics to the cutting edge, we invite audiences to experience the broadest range of theatrical entertainment.”
Shows range from the 19th century Henrik Ibsen classic "A Doll's House," to the twentieth century classic "A Raisin in the Sun," to newer plays like comedy "Women in Jeopardy!" and the improv musical "Your Love, Our Musical."
"I may be wrong but i do not know of there ever being a local production
of 'A Raisin in the Sun,'" Taylor said. "Kind of amazing considering what an iconic piece
of theatre it is! I can't wait to bring it to our audiences!"
Taylor is set to direct "Women in Jeopardy!" this August, and he's excited about the cast, which supports a "hysterical" script.
Theatre's rendition of "Seven Guitars" features most of the cast from last year's production of "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom."
"August Wilson is one of America's greatest playwrights," Taylor said. "I cannot wait to share that show with everyone."
"One-man Christmas Carol" was a last minute booking last season, which Taylor attributed to Timur Kocak's performance.
"Although the story is really well known and numerous productions have been dome here locally, this one-man version really puts a fresh look on this classic piece," he explained.
"Your Love, Our Musical" won the NYCFringe overall excellence in acting award and has 4-star reviews from Timeout Magazine. "Bringing a play like this in from New York City for $25 a ticket, less if you subscribe, is unheard of in this area," Taylor said.
Theatre lovers can save up to $72 with a season subscription, which range from $105 per person for 5 shows to $153 per person for all nine shows. Individual tickets to each show are $25, $11 for students or $22 for Alliance members.
